Surprising Analytics was established by Roy Ruddle to provide consultancy and training in business understanding, data quality, data visualization and explainable AI. He has provided consultancy to companies in the engineering and health sectors, and delivered many talks and CPD courses about visualization, Tableau Desktop, explainable AI and data quality.
Roy has a diverse, interdisciplinary background. In industry, he worked for a number of CAD/CAM and computer graphics companies. While a University of Leeds professor, he taught visualization and data science to thousands of final year undergraduate and master’s students, and worked with a wide variety of public and private sector organisations (both large and small). He also commercialised visualization software for cancer diagnosis with the global healthcare company Roche, established the spin-out company Petriva that provides visual data analysis software for petrophysicists, and led development of the 6-step Data Quality Method and associated vizdataquality Python package that are both openly available.
